LP3: Creating and Adding Multiple Child Activities

Introduction

In some Activity Templates, a Parent Activity can branch into multiple Child Activities; a form task with the option to create multiple form variations is followed by a 'branch' action (see icons below), which creates a new activity for each form completed.

The example below will demonstrate how multiple Child Activities are created and how to add more later on.

Note: if you are unfamiliar with Parent and Child Activities, please see our guide for an explanation.

Creating Multiple Child Activities

This step can only be completed by users assigned to the Form Task.

This form task has the option to complete multiple forms using the '+' button at the top of the page.

You can navigate through the different forms using the arrows above. Below, a small tracker will tell you which form you're currently viewing.

Clicking the button with the tick will complete the Form Task. If you navigate back to the Parent Activity, you will see each new Child Activity listed under the 'Linked Activities' tab.

Note: forms allowing 'multiple' can be completed in one-go using the 'Paste from File' feature. Please see our guide on this for further explanation.

Adding New Child Activities

This option is only available to those with a WorkManager security role.

If you decide later that you want to create more Child Activities, you can click the 'Add new activity' button whilst viewing the Parent Activity.

This will bring up a form requesting the same information required to create the other children.

Note: this will display the same information as the first form by default (i.e. SKU Name has been named Child Activity 1), but you can overwrite this with new information.

Once you have completed the additional form(s), you will see them under the Parent's 'Linked Activities' tab.

If you accidentally create more than you need, you can cancel any unwanted Child Activities.
